Certification Engineer Job Available at GE Aerospace

GE Aerospace, formerly known as GE Aviation, is a prominent American manufacturer of aircraft engines and integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft. The company’s origins trace back to 1917 when General Electric (GE) developed the turbosupercharger, a centrifugal compressor that enabled aircraft to operate at higher altitudes by increasing air density and oxygen levels. This innovation significantly enhanced aircraft performance during World War I and laid the foundation for GE’s future endeavors in aviation technology.

In 1941, GE’s Lynn, Massachusetts, plant was selected by the United States Army Air Corps to build a jet engine based on the design of Britain’s Sir Frank Whittle. This collaboration led to the development of the first U.S. jet engine, the I-A which powered America’s first jet aircraft, the Bell P-59 Airacomet, in 1942. This milestone marked GE’s entry into jet propulsion and established its position as a leader in aviation innovation.

Over the decades, GE Aerospace has achieved several notable accomplishments. In the 1970s, the company partnered with France’s Snecma (now Safran) to form CFM International, a 50/50 joint venture that produced the highly successful CFM56 engine.

The CFM56 became one of the best-selling jet engines in commercial aviation, powering aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families. This collaboration exemplifies GE’s commitment to global partnerships and technological excellence.

In recent years, GE Aerospace has continued to innovate and expand its product offerings. The company developed the GEnx engine which powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the 747-8, offering improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Additionally, GE Aerospace has embraced additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies, incorporating them into engine components to enhance performance and reduce weight.

These advancements underscore the company’s dedication to sustainability and cutting-edge technology.

As of April 2024, GE Aerospace became an independent publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, following the completion of GE’s spinoff of its energy division, GE Vernova. This strategic move allowed GE Aerospace to focus exclusively on the aviation sector, positioning itself for continued growth and innovation in the aerospace industry.
